VANO MELIASHVILI (1892 - 1988) - Lot 55
VANO MELIASHVILI (1892 - 1988) The violin concert Oil on cardboard 70 x 50 cm Provenance Acquired from the artist Private collection, Tiflis Spiritual son of Niko Pirosmani, Vano Meliashvili is appreciated by a cenacle of aesthetes. In his youth he followed the wandering life of a pilgrim priest in the Caucasus mountains and then settled in Tiflis. Turning his back on the revolutionary convulsions of his time Meliashvili inscribed his art in an ideal folklore and borrowed a simplicity that expresses the primary beauty of a lost paradise. The hieraticism of the figures makes one feel the vibration of colour, the restrained and noble joy of the lords of the mountains. Our painting is part of the series of works inspired by the life of the old Tiflis with its picturesque characters in which beauty and deep poetry are expressed.
