WILLIAM ALFRED DELAMOTTE (WEYMOUTH, 1775 - OXFORD, 1863)
View of Brientz, Switzerland Watercolor 19 x 26.5 cm Signed and dated "W. Delamotte 1831" lower right Provenance Christie's South Kensington 2011 Click here to bid William Alfred Delamotte is noticed from an early age for his drawing talents. In 1793, at only 18 years old, he exhibited his works at the Royal Academy and began his training at the Ecole de l'Académie Royale the following year. Trained by Benjamin West, a great painter of historical scenes and neo-classical style, he enjoyed the support of King George III as his master. However, Delamotte concentrates his art on architectural studies and landscapes rendered in watercolour tones that are perfectly reminiscent of the muted colours of the Swiss mountains.
