JACOB Max (1876-1944)
Three signed autograph letters addressed to Ad. AYNAUD. Paris and Quimper, 1928-1930, 2 pages in-4 in ink on paper with envelopes and 1 page in-12 oblong with address (postcard). To a collector in Lille to whom Jacob sells gouaches and gives advice. March 25, 1928]: he is in Paris, "very busy with my exhibition and others. I will try to make a portrait of myself, but a drawing enlarged by projection seems to me to be a failure". He advises to contact the photographer Martinie, or "the engraver Soulas [...] who has just made a woodcut of me, which appeared in the Nouvelles Littéraires. I did everything possible and impossible for Leonardi. He is a cursed one" [Aynaud was one of the clients of the Sicilian ceramist Giovanni Leonardi (1876-1957), installed in Quimper thanks to Max Jacob, and working for the Henriot earthenware factory]; Quimper, January 1, 1930: "Among the annoyances that I have accumulated since this accident, I consider as painful that of having failed to see you at last. Alas! I was in a bad way and we couldn't get you on board! How unhappy I was! I am still unhappy. He sends her "the wishes of an old cripple. I am definitely lame! May God give you all that you desire and that you deserve so well"; Quimper, January 13, 1930: he would be delighted to please his publisher and Leonardi, who would be the illustrator of a project: "The Dice Cone belongs to me in all property. Crès to republish La Côte qui m'appartient gave me5000 F. I would not want to create a precedent by asking much less from your publisher. One could be proud of it" A telegram is attached, acknowledging receipt of one thousand francs.
