CHAR RENÉ (1907-1988)
Twenty-one signed autograph letters and cards addressed to Louis BARNIER. 1964-1983, 22 pages in ink on paper, various formats, envelopes preserved. Correspondence from René Char to Louis Barnier, director of the Union printing works, relating to their collaboration for almost 25 years. "...] I have always been happy to talk about you here with the many people who ask me: "But who is this printer who loves his work and our cause so much, to make such a good brochure and poster?" You don't go unnoticed as you see it! Yes, the poster is an extraordinary success. The night police have torn a few of them, torn up rather badly, but it is circulating and the shopkeepers are showing it to the public in their stores. The shop windows show it among their objects or their victuals, a charming commodity! Thanks again. We are organizing a big gathering for the month of May. Many difficulties certainly, the heavy machine of the parties, voluntarily puts misfires in its engine. We will reach our goals, I believe and I hope". It is attached a telegram from René Char to the Imprimerie Union as well as "Mille planches de salut", a facsimile of René Char's manuscript written as a preface to the work: "Drawings by Picasso".
