ARCHIPENKO ALEXANDER (1887-1964)
Meeting of twenty-three signed autograph letters, one autograph letter and three autograph postcards addressed to André de RIDDER. Paris, Berlin, 12 August 1920-29 December 1922, set of 51 pages on 22 leaves and 2 double leaves in-4, 4 leaves and 2 double leaves in-8, and 5 leaves in-12, in ink on paper. Various sizes. (Some stains). Important correspondence to André de Ridder, around the setting up of an Exhibition of the artistic group la Section d'Or in 1920, on the initiative of the artist Archipenko. André de Ridder, a Belgian writer supporting contemporary creation, is also the founder of the magazine Sélection and of an exhibition centre of the same name in Brussels. Archipenko contacted him for the organisation of an Exhibition in this place at the end of 1920. He mentioned the various details concerning it and cited artists who would take part in it, such as Juan Gris, Pablo Picasso and Léopold Survage. The first Exhibition of the Golden Section had taken place in Paris in 1912 and was intended to show the works of artists gathered under the Cubist name. Put on hold by the war, it was reactivated by Archipenko and is now more international in its artists and venues. The 1920 Exhibition of the Golden Section took place in Paris, but also in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
