KALIMANTAN, BORNÉO, GRANDES ILES DE LA SONDE, INDONÉSIE XIXe SIÈCLE OU PLUS ANCIEN
Large hempatung in very eroded hardwood carved with aso, a mythical snake dog, intended to ensure the protection of the village. These large sculptures, the realization of which required feats of work, were later abandoned to the jungle when the village had to move to find its food elsewhere. It was then the rain and bad weather that ended the sculptor's work in a very random way. The aso, a kind of serpent dog that surmounts this pole is the mythical female animal representing the goddess linked to the primordial waters, specific to the Kenyahkaynan people of Borneo. H. 230 cm
