26 L.A.S. and 2 P.A.S. "A. Humboldt was "infinitely saddened by the fact that a previous engagement with Mr. Berthollet at Arcueil deprived him of the happiness of paying his respects to Mrs . Gautier next Tuesday" (May 7, 1808)... He finds it odd that Mr. PINKERTON, who "once called him an insane French naturalist", claims in the last issue of the American Library that he was authorized to publish his manuscripts, but he is more interested in a book on Mr. Estalla's Mexico, and asks Conrad MALTE-BRUN for information on this subject[1 August 1808]... Apologies to his colleague from the Gaspard Institute of PRONY: he forgot that he was having dinner on Sunday at Berthollet's; he nevertheless hopes to arrive in time for the concert[23 March 1837]... Recommendation to a German scholar of the young Nicolay FÜRST, who did a lot in Paris for the renewal of the motherland's literature, and through it, painting and custom (11 April 1831)... Recommendation to Baron de BÜLOW, extraordinary envoy and plenipotentiary minister of the King of Prussia in London, his friend, and his brother's highly esteemed friend, Professor Peter von BOHLEN, asking him to encourage his Indian studies (4 March 1837)... Regrets to a baron: "Member of the Institute, having lived in Paris for 24 years, I was able to choose among the translators those of my colleagues who possess both languages": MM. Faye, Arago, Guignaut, Letronne (27 October 1847)... On his return from a trip on the Rhine to look after his health, he would like to visit a venerated president (September 1, 1848)... Album sheet for Caroline Alexandrine SEIFERT, servant's daughter: excerpt from a letter from her
