EINSTEIN Albert (1879-1955)
L.S. "A. Einstein", Princeton, New Jersey May 7, 1945, to Gertrud WARSCHAUER; 1 page in-4 typed, at its header (dry stamp); in German. Letter written on the very day of the Nazi surrender. His good letter made him very happy, and he cordially thanks her for Samuel BUTLER's book, certainly interesting, which reached him in good condition. He didn't know it and he can't wait to read it. It is fortunate that she no longer hears the sound of planes, only the organs to which she has compared them. However, the Germans received the money from their own pockets, albeit not enough, and by far. If he were pious, he would pray that the "Allied Nations" would get along, more or less, in the coming years at least, but he does not know if even the God of the Piles can be conceived as all-powerful enough to accomplish this...
