EINSTEIN Albert (1879-1955)
L.S. "A. Einstein", Princeton, New Jersey, April 12, 1945, to Dr. Gabriel SEGALL, Los Angeles; ¾ page in-4 at its header (dry stamp); in German. He had exactly the same impression as he did, of Professor ROTH. It is hardly conceivable that among their Jewish intelligentsia, such mediocrity would succeed ("Ich hätte es kaum gedacht, dass in unserer jüdischen Intelligentsia solche Mediocritäten Erfolg haben können"). Einstein made fun of Roth during his visit, without him noticing. In general, the level in their university is, thank God, much higher. During his visit, he began to wonder whether the establishment of a secure homeland - assuming that those who survived could never achieve it - would not produce fertile ground for philistinism comparable to that which they so often witness, in the atmosphere of the safe goyim...
