STEVENSON ROBERT LOUIS (1850-1894).
Signed autograph letter, signed « Robert Louis Stevenson » and « R.L.S. », Sydney (New South Wales) [February 1891 or March 1893 (?)], to Francis Marion CRAWFORD; 2 pages, in-8 format (some foxing); in English. Fine letter by Stevenson, admirative of Francis Marion Crawford. Francis Marion CRAWFORD (1854-1909) was an American novelist, famous for his Gothic Horror novels. He lived in Italy and spent considerable time in India. Stevenson writes : “I sail in some forty hours back among the islands, which are now more homelike in my eyes that the world to which I once belonged […] I do not know you : it is likely we shall never meet, and I think it most improbable that my literature may be abominable in your eyes…”. He signs “Your admirer”. A very lengthy post-scriptum is copied on the verso of the letter. He tells his correspondent that his books will travel and “they will be read in a better climate and in lonelier places…”
