Dodgson », Ch[rist] Ch[urch] Oxford, 25 November 1891, to Alice LIDDELL, and autograph POEM signed « Lewis Carroll », with an autograph dedication (16 November 1891) on William ALLINGHAM, The Fairies, A Child’s Song, illustrated by E. Gertrude THOMSON (London, Thomas de La Rue et Co., [1883]; First edition) ; 3 pages small in-8 format, envelope ; one volume oblong in-4 format, in publisher’s dark green card wraps with yellow title and design (a fairy riding a rodent, taken from the illustration on p. 22) (a few defects to the paper covers, detached) ; in English ; presented in an articulated red morocco case. Precious and endearing set off ered by Lewis Carroll to Alice Liddell, his model for the heroine of the celebrated Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Dedication by Lewis Carroll on the title-page of a copy of the fi rst edition of William Allingham, The Fairies, A Child’s Song (London, [1883]): “Presented to Princess Alice, by a certain poor old man, in memory of a certain day when two live Fairies did certainly appear to him.” Poem, 13 verses in capital letters on the facing page, signed « Lewis Carroll », dated 16 November 1891. A “puzzle” containing Alice’s name appears as an anagram in the poem: « Puck has fled the haunts of men: Ridicule has made him wary: In the woods, and down the glen, No one meets a Fairy! ““Cream!” the greedy Goblin cries, Empties the deserted dairy, Steals the spoons, and off he fl ies – Still we seek our Fairy! “Ah, what form is entering?
